Wow, moscato has really been taking its effect this summer. Moscato has been around since the 50′s and the topic of moscato has never been this popular. Trends are always triggered and come and go for several random reasons. Moscato may be in this category as it is becoming the beverage of choice in the rap and hip hop community. Many hip hop and rap moguals are starting to mention moscato in their lyrics.

Example lyrics:

“Still over in Brazil/Sipping moscato/You must have forgot though/So I’ma take it back to the block, yo.” – Lil Kim (Lighters up)

“It’s a celebration/ clap clap bravo/ lobster & shrimp & a glass of moscato…finish the whole bottle” Trey Songs ft. Dreake (Invented Sex)

In addition to rap songs, hip hop mogul Kanye West had a special event in 2005 when he ordered special bottles of Saraco Moscato d’Asti for a party. However, I think that the overall sparkling and sweet taste of moscato has really kept this trend of moscato alive. How Moscato Wine is made?

Muscat grapes

Moscato wine is one of the best dessert wines you can pair with other sweets. With the combination of these foods, it will make a complementary taste effects that will make each and every food tastier.

There is simplicity when it comes to how moscato is made. The first step you need to do is to harvest the grapes. In order to come up with the best moscato wine, you need to select the best grape. This group of grape family comes with the best aroma as well as taste.

After you have already harvested the grapes, you now press and have them filtered. For you to come up with the best moscato wine, the main secret here it is the freshness. However, you might encounter premature fermentation so to avoid this, you have to store the filtered grapes in freezing temperature and when the need is there to vinify the moscato, you have to do it.

The last process is called vinify. This usually takes about one month wherein the filtered moscato is placed in autoclave or any tank which is sealed. The temperature must be kept at about 15 degrees Celsius. You have to warm the moscato and have it inoculated with yeast. This tank is very much important because it will preserve the fizziness and CO2 of the “must”. Once the right amount of residual sugar level is achieved which is about 5.5 percent alcohol, you can stop the fermentation. The last step in the filtering of the moscato wine is the removal of the yeast and other residues present.

What is a tasty moscato wine?

Growing up in wine valley California I experienced a very rich culture of wine, one of which were wine buffs or “critics” who always has a strong opinion about certain types of wines. I tend not to be too critical about wines, however my love for moscato has bumped me towards a more “richer” taste. In my opinion, a tasty moscato should serve as an excellent drink by itself, that is without the addition of appetizers or other foods that accompany dessert wine.

Some people say Moscato D’Asti is too sweet, however most fail to acknowledge that moscato is not your typical wine. According to a quick poll I did on facebook on random people it seems people’s favorite moscato are:

Bartenura

Barefoot

Sutterhome

Also, check out an article I wrote about the top 8 brands of Moscato, according to reviews and popular choice:

Moscato Wine – The basics of Moscato wine

Moscato grapesMoscato wine, historically speaking, has a very royal history. Even though many wine buffs would snub moscato, it has been discovered that moscato actually played a key role in many of the alchoholic beverages in King Midas’s tomb. So anybody who drinks moscato is in the company of royalty. Nonetheless, moscato wine is very tasty, sweet and very distinguished.
Strictly speaking, Moscato comes from the Muscat grape, which is used for wine making. It mainly has a sweet flavor, with low tannins and ranges in either color of white and black. Muscat actually comes from all over the world, and so it’s denomination may change from region to region. Some common names are Muscat Blanc, muscat Canelli, Yellow Muscat, and Moscato Bianco.
Muscat grapes are very popular in Chile, and there are even some vineyards in the states as well, especially California and New York. One type of common Moscato drink in the UK is the Asti Spumante, which is known for its grapey sweetness and frizz.
Not only are moscato wines tasty it is also healthy. Research has shown that moscato contains high concentrations of flavonoids, which means a lot of antioxidants. Moscato wine also has as many flavonoids as red wine, so one can argue that moscato wine is as healthy as red wine.
